LOOMSTRUMENT

Loomstrument is a collaboration between Philadelphia-based textile artist Mary Smull and sound designer/producer Chris Powell.  It explores the sonic & visual harmony that can be created with pattern-based systems.  By reimagining the loom’s functionality - adding sound triggers and custom built electronics - Loomstrument brings a new connectivity to both the process of weaving and the electronic music world.  Creating a fresh new ability to weave sound, Smull & Powell can improvise and react to each other, weaving a unique hybrid visual sound piece.
